Drew Willy

The Big story in the CFL this week revolved around Winnipeg quarterback Drew Willy. After lighting up the world during the first week of the season Willy was KO'd by the Hamilton defense.

Drew Willy was wrapped up and secured by Hamilton linebacker Taylor Reed when he received a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit from Ti-Cat defensive tackle Adrian Tracy. Despite the nature of the hit there was no flag. At the time of the play the score was 10-7 in favor of Winnipeg but things got very ugly in the second quarter.

Tracy got away with one during the game but the CFL announced they were going to fine the Hamilton lineman.

Defensive lineman Adrian Tracy of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats was fined by the CFL on Tuesday for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Drew Willy last week.

When it happened I did not really think Willy was going to be ready to go so soon but the Bombers are planning on using Drew this week against Montreal.

On Monday, Willy said he is good shape and game-ready for this Friday's match against Montreal. He said he had no intentions of taking the day off.

But this brings up the recent debate about head injuries and football. It's not restricted to the states. Seems that our friends north of the border also are steeped in that discussion.

World-renowned concussion expert says Bombers on thin ice with decision to bring
A world-renowned expert on concussions says the Bombers are just the latest example of a pro team not taking head injuries seriously enough. Dr. Charles Tator, director of the Canadian Sports Concussion Project in Toronto, says far too often teams don't follow the six steps for a return to the field – steps that are supposed to take a day, each.

Ernest Jackson

EJ and the REDBLACKS are flying high at 2-0.

The RedBlacks made an off-season splash by signing free agents Chris Williams, Brad Sinopoli, Greg Ellingson and Ernest Jackson and dealing for Maurice Price -- all receivers. Their dependability and explosiveness has opened up lanes for the RedBlacks on the ground with Chevon Walker bursting through huge openings in Saturday's 27-16 win over the B.C. Lions.

Jackson is 18th in the CFL in yards and tied for first for touchdown receptions. It was late in the 4th that Henry Burris hit Jackson for a touchdown which put the BC lions two scores down, sealing the game.

Natey Adjei

Still no action this season for Adjei on offense but he did register a tackle last week for Toronto.
