Last week's "Minor League Monday" featured a couple of notes on former UB players who had hit a cold streak, this week there is plenty of good news to go around for UB baseball fans. And it starts with Mike Burke.
Orioles Pitcher Mike Burke Promoted To Aberdeen Iron Birds - Bull Run
Mike Burke, the most called upon starter in UB Baseball history, has been promoted from the Gulf Coast Orioles to the Aberdeen Iron Birds. Burke saw action in 11 games for the GCL Orioles, a rookie league team he was assigned to after being drafted in the 30th round of this past seasons MLB draft.
Mike Burke moved up from the "Rookie League" to the Short A league. To top it off the former UB Hurler pitched two pristine innings the day after being called up.

Sadly the Ironbirds are out of post season contention so there are only 8 more games this year where Burke might pitch.
UB's other professional Hurler, Steve Geltz, also had himself a pretty solid week. He was called on for relief in two games, giving up no runs. He stuck out three batters and allowed only two his for the AAA Durham Bulls.
The Bulls are nine games up on the Norfolk Tides in the International League South division, just one game away from securing the division and a playoff spot. The Bisons, in the North Division are three and a half games back of the Chiefs but are tied for the leagues Wild Card spot. It's possible that Geltz will face the Bisons in the playoffs.

The Pitchers were not the only players having fun.Jason Kanzler and the Fort Myers Miracle are already in the playoffs because they won their division in "the first half" of the season. Now they are trying to hold on for the best record in the "south" division.
Kanzler, in advance of the post season, is getting hot at the right time. This past week he batted 303, getting ten hits, a home run, four RBI's and six stolen bases.

Last but not least is Tyler Mautner who is playing for the Elizabethton Twins. They lead the Appalachian League east division by three games as the season winds down. Like his former teammate Mautner is starting to heat up at the right time.

Mautner ended a seven game hit-less stream by going 3/6 during the last two games. He also had a home run, and three RBI's.
