Buffalo Bulls Football Roster Changes Spring

The 2014 football season just officially started!

The Buffalo Bulls released their spring prospectus and the staff here at Bull Run will be digging into it looking for tidbits to pass along. First up is non seniors who are not longer a part of the program.

There are four Buffalo Bulls from last season who decided not to complete their tour of duty with UB Athletics. They are James Potts, Blake Bean, Ryan Paxon, and Khari Demos. If you're counting at home that is three would be seniors and a sophomore.

The reasons for their departure are some I don't consider to be my business. So long as the police blotter is clear then such departures are pretty standard for for college football teams.

James Potts is, on paper, the biggest talent UB lost. The Boynton Beach Florida native was one of UB's most highly sough after recruits when Turner Gill landed him back in 2009. Jeff Quinn keeping Potts to his commitment despite late offers from Vandy and some other schools was perhaps Quinn's first recruiting victory at UB.

But Potts never really got off the ground with Buffalo. He missed his freshman year when financial constraints kept American Heritage, a private school, from releasing his transcripts to UB on time. He missed his red shirt freshman year due to grade problems and then right when things seemed to be getting on track in his sophomore year Potts suffered a freak injury after a long touchdown run in week two.

Blake Bean was a JUCO entry to UB last season.  Coming in as a linebacker from Junior College power Butler Community College in Kansas Bean made a real difference for the UB defense. Bean started 11 games for Buffalo putting up 56 tackles.

I have seen some message board chatter than Bean has transferred to North Texas. The Witicha Kansas Native should enjoy being closer to home and did have a red shirt left to use.

Ryan Paxson is another loss for the Buffalo line backing corps. He transferred over from Cincinnati in 2011 and did some special teams duty in 2012. Last season he did not see the field but could have been important depth this year.

Editorial Note: I had seen Paxon listed as a Junior on one of the NCAA roster pages for Buffalo but apparently he was a senior and has graduated.

Finally Khari Demos is a lineman who was a preferred walk-on.
