The Buffalo Bulls enter the post-Javon McCrea era and while many think there might be a fall off this season Ken Pomeroy does not.
This season's KenPom rankings were released today with Buffalo clocking in at 141. It's not a great ranking but it is good for #2 in the MAC this season. The only team higher than Buffalo sits in the MAC West.
The other teams UB usually ends up fighting with for the MAC East are ranked 146 (Ohio), 179 (Bowling Green), 185 (Kent), and 186 (Akron).
A still-building Miami checks in at 225.
UB stacks up very well against their schedule this season. Outside of the two marquee teams the Bulls are ahead of every opponent save Toledo and Saint Bonaventure. Though, they are within ten spots of Drexel, Ohio, and Eastern Michigan, which is effectively a "tie".
Montana State, who visits Buffalo on November 21st looks to be the Bulls' weakest opponent. Their KenPom ranking is 327 out of 351 NCAA Division One teams.
Cornell and Binghamton are also ranked below 300.
In the Big 4 UB is quite a few spots below Saint Bonaventure, as mentioned above. On the flip side the the Bulls are 50 spots in front of the Griffs and more than 100 in front of Niagara.
Last season Bobby White managed to lost to both teams. There should be little excuse for a repeat of that this, or any, season.
