In Lou Tepper Buffalo has one of the more common names in Linebacker coaching. To steal a phrase which has been beat the death; "He Literally Wrote the Book on Linebackers". This past season Buffalo Linebacker Khalil Mack was far and away the best Buffalo player in the history of the program. At the same time Adam Redden, a converted safety, became a dynamic threat as Tepper's "Drop Linebacker".
Tepper's defenses are more than likely to be driven by their linebackers. With Mack graduating and Redden and others going into their senior year there is a powerful need to pull talented prep linebackers into the program this season.
Corey Henderson may be one of those linebackers. He chose Buffalo over offers from UMass, Kent, VMI, and Air Force. Henderson told Bull Run that he picked UB "because of the coaching staff and the team is close to one another so It seems like they are family. And the education at buffalo is one of the best in the nation."
Coach Matt Simon had the most to do with Henderson's recruiting process. In addition to selling the staff and the team Simon also sold academics. Henderson has locked in on UB's Engineering department though he has not yet decided which type of engineering he wishes to pursue. Many of the disciplines within the department are among the top 50 programs in the nation.
Last season Henderson was named to the MaxPreps 2013 Virginia Preseason All-State Team and received honorable mention to the "AA" VHSCA Football Coaches Team. But his best high school memory was taking down James Monroe, the main rival of King George. It was the first victory by King George over Monroe in 11 years.
