Talking Bull : Winning when the chips are down

It's been a rough season for UB Basketball fans. The men and Women seemed to sleepwalk through the non conference schedule and while the men have yet to rouse from their slumber the women have roared out of the gate to a 3-0 start!

While Kent was beating the men in Amherst the women went to Ohio to take on the feminine flashes.

Bulls Take Down Golden Flashes; Improve To 3-0 In MAC For First Time - Buffalo Athletics
The University at Buffalo women's basketball team continued its strong play to begin Mid-American Conference play, picking up its third straight win, defeating Kent State, 69-54, Wednesday evening at the M.A.C Center. The victory improves the Bulls to 3-0 in the MAC for the first time since joining the conference in 1998-99.

This team had an awful non conference run, and they have yet to face the in conference powers but a 3-0 start for a team that won just four conference games last season points at better things to come down the road.

The Men'ds DIII squad starts out with a bang!

When the D1 ACHA team fell twice this weekend the DIII team gave fans something to watch when they won their debut.

DIII Team Wins Inaugural Game " University at Buffalo Hockey
In the third, Buffalo went into shutdown mode. With excellent depth at defense and a workman’s like mentality by the forwards, D’Youville was only able to muster a few chances to get the game close. The Spartans were forced to press on a late powerplay and defenseman Brandon Gonzalez (Fr) was able ice the game for UB with a shorthanded goal. Robinson would take over from there, turning away 9 more Spartan shots to preserve the 4-1 win.

Six weeks from conception to their first victory.

O'Brien Earned it!

Penn State Nittany Lions' Bill O'Brien wins Paul 'Bear' Bryant Award - ESPN
O'Brien won the 2012 Paul "Bear" Bryant College Coach of the Year Award on Thursday night, beating out five other finalists.

No they were not an undefeated team or a top ten squad but what Penn State did this season is mighty impressive. By sheer force of personality he held his team together, losing only a handful of players, and the ones who stayed did it on the field.

When we were talking about "if's" to replace Quinn had he left O'Brien came up and man was he the best name.

Perhaps most impressive is him sticking with Penn State despite the fact that the program is still under sanctions for years.

Sabre's fans finally won...
