Buffalo Bulls Women's Basketball Preview: Freshman forward Tamara Brcina

UB Athletics

Brcina has gotten the least attention of UB's freshman, but is another face in the frontcourt.

The Basics

Number: 14
Year: Freshman
Position: Forward
Hometown: Tuzla, Boznia and Herzegovina
Height: 6-2

New Girl?

Yes. Her commitment was announced on 8 June.

Before UB

Like Mirte Scheper, Brcina has national team experience, having played with the Bosnia and Herzegovina U18 team in the 2014 European Championships. Like most recruits from outside the United States, Brcina's experience comes mostly at the club level, where she's been on a number of teams who won or placed highly in national tournaments.

2015-16 Outlook

There's more video out there of Brcina than there is of Mirte Scheper, and of course Courtney Wilkins has a half-year in Coach Jack's system already, but Brcina looks like she could do well as a freshman. She's get a well-developed hook shot and moves very well on offense and defense for 6-2.

In the link above, Coach Jack talks about using her at the three spot. Given the experience and sheer numbers imbalance between the guards and forwards, I'd be a bit surprised by that, but if Brcina can contribute offensively from there UB would have much more flexibility with their lineup and a dangerous matchup option in the midrange.
