Through two sets, tonight’s Volleyball match in Akron looked much like UB’s opening MAC weekend, with the Bulls falling behind 0-2 to the Zips.
After the break, though, we saw the best volleyball of the season from the Bulls, who roared back for a 17-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-8 win. Cassie Shado had one of the finest matches we’ve seen since Bull Run started covering the program, with a career-high 22 kills.
Shado’s effort was not an individual talent carrying a team to victory, but merely the highlight of a stellar across-the-board performance from the Bulls. Megan Wernette had seven blocks and was one of three Bulls in addition to Shado with double-digit calls. UB hit just shy of .300 in the match, including over .400 in the third and fourth sets and over .600 in the fifth as they claimed all the momentum from the Zips after the break.
Buffalo continue to block well in MAC play, with 12 tonight after double digits against Ohio, Kent State, and Bucknell. Without a doubt, UB is on their finest stretch of the season and is still improving.
UB welcomes Ball State in their home opener Saturday. The Cardinals could be a winnable match for the Bulls if Buffalo can remain consistent, as Ball State lost to Toledo tonight in four sets.
