Buffalo Volleyball swept by Ohio Friday evening

Matt Gritzmacher

For the second straight match, Volleyball was swept by a MAC East opponent, unable to stop the Ohio Bobcat offense in a 15-25, 14-25, 15-25 sweep. The hosts hit .414 in the match but were over .500 as late as midway through the third set.

Megan Lipski led UB with nine kills and added five digs. Niki Bozinoski, playing at libero in place of Tessa Ooyama, who did not appear, had nine digs. Ohio had nine aces.

Otherwise, there's not a lot to say on this one. The Bobcats had recently lost not one, but two MAC contests, and are extra motivated on top of being the conference's top team heading into the tournament not only from those losses but last year's MAC Championship upset loss to Western Michigan. The Bulls without Ooyama and with three freshman in their starting lineup, were little match.

The last two Buffalo results highlight how critical last weekend's victory over Bowling Green was for UB. In consecutive matches against MAC East frontrunners, the Bulls have failed to win a set. They'll have another chance against Kent State tomorrow.

In MAC seeding concerns, Central Michigan and Toledo are currently tied 1-1. A Toledo win would keep the Bulls in seventh, while CMU could drop UB to eighth with a win.
