Buffalo Bulls Swimming and Diving splits squad for Ohio weekend

Matt Gritzmacher

Very quietly, we've gotten close to the end of the Swimming and Diving season. There's only one more weekend of competition before the Women's MAC Championships at the end of February and the Men's the week following. This weekend, though, the Women got another shot at a MAC opponent, and the Men went to Ohio for a quad-meet against a handful of power conference programs.

Men vs Ohio State, Michigan, West Virginia

Unsurprisingly, this weekend was dominated by the Big Ten programs, both top-15 in the nation, with UB struggling to place much higher than 10th in any event. The highlights came from a pair of underclassmen in Itai De La Vega's 3rd place finish in the 100 breast and Mason Miller's 5th place showing in the 50 free. Garrett Clarke was 5th in the 200 breast, but across the board UB was well behind their season bests in nearly every event.

The Bulls did win the matchup against West Virginia when all the results were pulled out into head-to-head scores.

Women vs Toledo

The women beat Toledo, but that's all we know, because Toledo seems to barely acknowledge that their Swimming and Diving program exists. It has been a frustrating day trying to get results out of Ohio, across all sports. I will update.
