Women’s Soccer finished off their weekend this afternoon with a second consecutive 1-0 loss, today at Miami, and now sit 0-2-0 in the MAC.
Much like Friday’s loss to Ball State, Sunday’s defeat came on an early goal, and UB couldn’t even over the final 80 minutes. That said, the Bulls managed seven shots on net today while Laura Dougall only saw two.
I haven’t talked much here about the other MAC teams — I’ll plug for my conference-wide Olympic coverage on Hustle Belt, Tuesday afternoons, here — but this is Miami’s template this year: ask goaltender Vic Maniaci to make a ton of saves, and make sure to capitalize on one of a few chances.
Buffalo out-cornered the RedHawks 15-4 on the day and had a reasonably balanced offense, as only Celina Carrero and Nicole Gerritz took multiple shots, but couldn’t break through, especially as Miami was likely willing to bunker down with the lead.
In individual vacuums, neither loss this weekend is all that surprising; both Miami and Ball State are good teams, and winning on the road is difficult in any conference. But UB hasn’t scored in three full games now and is 0-2-0 in the MAC. They’ll need to rebound next weekend versus Bowling Green and Toledo to get the season back on track.
