UB Road Trips 2019: Liberty

Homecoming weekend at Liberty University Photo by Andrew Lichtenstein/Corbis via Getty Images

Having driven through the MAC footprint several times maybe I suffer from some bias towards non MAC road trips. Liberty comes in as the first road trip this season which clears three stars, honestly if Gill was still there this would even top Penn State.

None of these are scientific, it’s just my opinion. I’d love to hear in the comments if you feel differently.

#2, Liberty

Out of conference, and our first time playing the Flames this one jumps all the MAC road trips this season.

Affordability 3/5:

About the longest drive of the year, and some of the more “pricey” tickets on the docket.

You can get general admission for $25 but decent ticket will run you $35 each. Parking can be free but I’ve heard that the “free spots” are pretty far from the stadium and not the best tailgating atmosphere.

Atmosphere 2.5/5:

If you decide to park near the tailgate activities you’ll find a decent environment for a mid major program.

I’m not sure of their official position on drinking, 2 minutes of google came up blank, but fans of other schools said as long as you’re not displaying a container and you’re not acting like a drunk moron nobody cares.

Tourism 2/5:

Because of it’s location this is probably the best tourism spot on our docket if you’re a “history tourism” person. But there are also river tours, art museums and other attractions

You can see more here (https://www.lynchburgvirginia.org/things-to-do/attractions/)

Opponent 3/5:

This was a “pre gill departure” score but I didn’t have the heart to knock them down because Gill left of his own accord and he left for the right reasons.

They came closer than many expected to bowl eligibility last season, but it was against a pretty soft schedule.

Competitiveness 4/5

UB lost 14 starters, but Liberty lost their coach... I’d say this is a game UB should be able to control.

Overall 3.1/5

Am I giving them too many points because this is literally the “house that Gill Built”... Maybe..

So Thoughts? Where am I wrong and why should a UB fan make the trip?
