Buffalo played a road game at Canisius and emerged victorious, finishing non conference play with an 12-1 record. But it was not as easy a win as many had predicted.
Whether is was UB being sluggish or Canisius treating the game like their “Super Bowl” the Griffs came out on fire and built up a 23-13 advantage in less than eight minutes of game play.
Then with 12:21 left UB started an impressive 24-3 run to establish their own double-digit lead and cruised much of the rest of the game. The Bulls would grow the lead to 18 at one point.
Nick Perkins and Jeremy Harris had solid nights, Perkins moved up two spots, to number 7, on UB’s all time scoring list. Both Perkins and Harris were once rebound away from their double double.
The Bulls walked away with a 87-72 victory, perhaps less than they would have liked given that two team ranked in the AP poll above Buffalo lost, making it possible for UB to move up a bit this week.
The Bulls open up conference play Friday on the road against Eastern Michigan and follow that up with a gut check game at home against 12-1 Toledo.
