In their home opener at Amherst Audobon Field UB was paired up with Miami and the RedHawks downed the Bulls 6-0. The day started out well as UB hurler AlecTuohy dominated Miami for the first two innings but the offense was unable to take advantage when they got men on first and second with no outs.
Vinny Mallaro opened the bottom of the second with a single to centerand then Ben Vey worked Miami for a walk. After that UB struck out twice and flied out to center.
Miami wasted no time making the Bulls pay. In the top of the third Tuohy hit a batter and walked the first tow batter. After that Miami hit back to back sacrificed to advance and then score a run to give the RedHawks the 1-0 edge through three innings.
Miami extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth with a walk, double, and sacrifice fly.
UB had their best chance to score in the bottom of the sixth inning. The inning started with a Bobby Sheppard single and Chris Kwitzer fielder's choice. Mallaro and Vey earned walks to load the bases with two outs. But UB was unable to get a hit or walk with the key at bat.
Tuohy, who has been rock solid in confernece play was finally ousted by Miami in the seventh when a Miami run madethe score 4-0. Ben Hartz replaced Tuohy in the seventh and earned a strikeout and fly out to end the threat.
The RedHawks scored two more runs in the eighth inning to put the game away as the Bulls offense couldn't mount the comeback, falling 6-0 in the series opening game.
