The Bulls first contest since the branding change saw an offensive surge which helped UB down Big 4 rival Canisius 5-4. On the mount Brandon Mumaw collected the win as UB moved to 11-17 on the season.
Canisius is already 2-0 against UB and the Griffs struck first in the second inning, bringing in a run to take a 1-0 lead.
In the visitors half of the third UB was able to pile on four critical run.
Bobby Sheppard started the inning singled to right field, moved to second on a balk and then Mike Abrunzo drew a walk. Andrew Taft hit a clutch two out single which scored Sheppard and then UB designated hitter Don Kilian hit a deep drive to right which allowed Abrunzo and Taft to score.
Kyle Brennan added one more when he singled which forced a throwing error that scored Killian.
Canisus got one back, in the fifth but once again UB followed that with some offense of their own.
They matched the Griffs run when Ben Haefner, with two outs, singleed up the middle, Eddie Edwards singled to right right field and Sheppard earned a walk to load the bases. Abrunzo outlasted the giffs pitcher to draw a walk and score Haefnew.
The Griffs managed a pair of runs off of Blair Lakso in the eighth but he and the other UB relievers kept the Griffs at bay in the 9th
Next up is MAC play, at home, against Miami of Ohio. UB is tied for 7th in the MAC and they have to take on the MAC east leading hawks.
