Tom Murphy to play for Team USA in the Pan American games

UB Alumnus Tom Murphy will be playing for Team USA in the PAM American Games.

BUFFALO, NY - Former University at Buffalo, The State University of New York baseball player Tom Murphy has been named to the 2015 USA Pan American Game baseball team roster, as announced on Monday afternoon. Murphy will be battling for the starting catcher position with Eric Fryer who plays for the Minnesota Twins AAA affiliate, Rochester Red Wings.

He left Buffalo as its career leader in slugging percentage (.588), passing Ron Couche's record from the 1978-79 season. In the program's career record lists, Murphy ranks second in home runs (27), third in doubles (47), fourth in total bases (318), and fifth in runs batted in (120). He also finished his great UB career with 182 career hits in 150 games.

Murphy is currently playing for the New Britian Rock Cats, the AA affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, and he is enjoying his best season in the minors. The powerful catcher currently owns a .253 batting average to go along with 11 homers, 41 RBI's and 16 doubles through 68 games.
