Joe Licata Named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week

Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

While the Bulls defense never bottled up Army on Saturday and it took the offense a while to get started the end result by Joe Licata was a great performance which just ran out of time and saw him named the Mid-American East Division Offensive Player of the Week.

Licata was 35-of-50 for 401 yards and five touchdowns against the Black Knights. The five touchdowns were the most by a UB quarterback in the Bulls' FBS era and the 401 passing yards was the third-highest single-game total. Licata nearly single-handedly brought the Bulls back from a large deficit in the second half as he went 27-of-35 for 320 yards and five TDs in the second half alone.

Joe Licata Career UB Rank
Completions 378 5
Attempts 650 8
Yards 4563 6
TD 39 4

Licata made use of 11 different receivers during the game and for the the first time in UB's FBS era, five different receivers had five catches or more, led by Marcus McGill who had seven receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns – all career highs.

With the game Licata moved to 5th completions and 4th in touchdowns all-time among UB quarterbacks.

This is the second time Licata has won the award, the last time being last season's 51-41 loss to Toledo where once again the Bulls fell far behind before Licata and his arm nearly led them to victory.

This week Licata will try his hand against 8th ranked Baylor on Friday night at UB Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 8 pm and will air on ESPN.
