NCAA Baseball Buffalo Defeats Bowling Green in Extra Innings

It wasn't easy but the team came together late in the game to take home the second of three games against Bowling Green.

Sometimes winning is a matter of getting production from an unexpected place when your stars get cold. That was certainly the case for UB during their 3-4 10 inning win over Bowling Green. Falcon Pitcher Mike Frank smothered Buffalo batters holding the Bulls to just one run through Seven innings. His counter part, Bulls pitcher Mike McGee did his part, holding the Falcons to just one earned run through six innings.

It was in the bottom of the seventh, when the game was tied at 1, where things finally got interesting. Bowling Green took a 2-1 lead as Shay would hit his second double of the game scoring an RBI. Soon after Kanzler would nail a Bowling Green runner at the plate to end the inning. But the damage was done.

Bowling Green left Frank in one out too long, and it costs them dearly. Alex Baldock drew a one out walk, and Mautner would single through the left side to chase Frank from the game. When Bruns took over for Bowling Green he had runners on first and second with just one out. Kyle Figgins immeadatly drew a walk off the reliever to load the bases. Then Mestas hit a fly ball to center field to bring in pinch runner Nick Sinaywho was at third. The throw to the plate was on-line, taking a hop right before the plate. The initial call at the plate was that Sinay was out, but while the play was still live the umpire reversed his call.

The call both tied the game, and kept the inning going for the Bulls. Richards followed the play by singling the first pitch he saw to the opposite field to score Mautner.

River McWilliams came into the game during the bottom of the eighth but the normally solid McWilliams was pounced on by Bowling Green who hit three straight singles loaded up the bases with just one out, and a sacrifice fly would tie the game back up at 3-3.

In the Bottom of the ninth, still knotted at three, the Falcons once again put McWilliams in a bad spot. The first two batters of the inning would reach but a failed sacrifice attempt, a fly out, and a McWilliams strikeout moved the game to extra innings.

Mestas led off the 10th with solid base running that turned a single into a double. He would go to third on a sacrifice, and Mike Burke would then draw a walk. Burke managed to steal second to take the pressure off of Scarcello who then sacrificed in Mestas for a 4-3 lead. The fame was then finished off by McWilliams who put the falcons down in order.
