NCAA Baseball Buffalo defeats Bowling Green in Game 1

Bowling Green kept it close for a long time but Tyler Mautner would not be denied.

Everyone got to his the ball today for Buffalo and that was key in UB's 10-2 win over Bowling Green. It was the first of a three game series UB needs to win if they hope to take the eastern division crown away from Kent. The Bulls (31-21, 18-6 MAC) and Falcons (19-27, 12-13 MAC) went back and forth for a good part of the game before Buffalo pulled ahead.

In a 5-4 contest Scarcello and Kanzler drew walks before Baldock loaded the bases for Mautner whos hit notched the third and fourth hits of the game.

Anthony Magovney five inning win ties him with Burke at second all time for wins in a season, two behind Bill Casbolt's 9 win mark set in 1977. It was not easy as he needed to find his way out of several jam early in the game. McWilliams put in three innings in an effort that ganered his 12th save of the season, doubling up the old record set by Cameron Copping's 2012. McWilliams is also now tied tie with Steve Geltz for the most career saves in program history.

Elsewhere in the MAC Kent survived a 17 inning slugfest against Akron to keep pace with the Bulls. The Zips twice in extra innings got runners to third but were unable to bring them home.

With the Loss Akron is a half game behind EMU for the last spot in the conference tournament.

Ball State upended NIU bringing them to withing a game of the Huskies. The Cardinals need to sweep the series to wrest the Western Division away from Northern Illinois.

The victory did secure a spot for Ball State in the conference tournament.

Miami also punched a ticket with their win over Ohio, and at the same time Eliminated the Bobcats from post season play.

Toledo's win over EMU puts them one game out of the postseason while the Eagles cling to the last spot just a half game ahead of Akron and one full game ahead of the Chips.

Western Michigan is reveling in the role of spoiler, their win over the CMU makes the road for a playoff birth much harder to walk for Central Michigan.
