Outfield of dreams

After losing Tom Murphy to the major league baseball draft UB goes from scrappy challenger to outsider. Still there is hope for the Bulls and it's to be found in their outfield.

UB Athletics

College Sports Madness released their 2013 Mid-American Pre-Season All-Conference Teams and two Bulls were found.

Matt Pollock, a senior from Sagamore Hills, spent last season putting together one of the greatest single seasons in program history. He finished the year being named All-MAC, All-Academic, and All-Mideast Region teams. He ranked in the top five in the MAC in all three batting percentages (including a first-place finish in slugging), home runs, total bases, and runs scored. Also in the top 25 nationally in slugging percentage.

At the plate he batted .357 with a .638 slugging percentage and a .447 on-base percentage. Pollock led the team with 79 hits and 56 runs scored. He also managed 44 RBI's as the team’s leadoff hitter and hit 12 homers, 18 doubles, and four triples.

In UB's record book last year put Pollock second in runs, hits, and home runs, ninth in slugging percentage, and sixth in RBI's.

He is joined on the list by second team pick Jason Kanzler.

Kanzler is a transfer from North Eastern who won a ABCA's Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2012. He wsa also named to the All Conference second team last season.

His perfect fielding percentage won him the Gold Glove but Kanzler also impressed at the plate. He ranked ninth in the MAC in batting average, runs scored, and hits, fifth in slugging percentage and home runs, eighth in stolen bases, and tied for first in triples. His 14-game hit streak helped propel the Bulls into the MAC baseball championships and by Ohio and Western Michigan

Kanzler may be the biggest speed threat on the roster having stole 17 bases in 21 attempts.
