Help... I've fallen and I can't get up...
Help... I've fallen and I can't get up...

As if things weren't bad enough in Idaho

So if you're sitting around asking yourself who would be the first coach this season to get the ax, well today Idaho gave you your answer.

The Vandals are in the midst of a painful season on filled with close losses to teams like Bowling Green and Wyoming. Its also been filled with blowouts, like the 70-28 drubbing just handed down by Louisiana Tech.

But in 2009 and 2010 he took Idaho to a 14-12 record and a win in the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl.

Idaho has been arguably worse the past two seasons but they have suffered along with what remains of the WAC.

ACC Suspends a player and officials!

ACC suspends UNC Tar Heels' Shakeel Rashad, multiple officials - ESPN
Rashad appeared to intentionally nail Vernon during a substitution in the second quarter Saturday night. Head linesman Tyrone Davis and side judge Angie Bartis have been suspended one game for missing the call.

Color me shocked officials suspended for missing a call!! What happened to the guys who missed the Toledo Rockets extra point attempt against the Syracuse Orange last season? Oh... The Orange are not in the ACC yet..

UB Wrestling...

2012-13 Wrestling Season Preview - Buffalo Athletics
A young and talented UB wrestling team took its lumps last season after leaning heavily on a starting lineup that consisted of seven wrestlers who were either true freshmen or redshirt freshmen and only one senior. Now coming back to the team will be six starters from last year with a season of experience under their belt and a feeling that there's something still to prove. Joining them will be two returning national qualifiers - senior John-Martin Cannon and junior Andrew Schutt - who spent the season as redshirts and will look to help the team climb back into the national focus.

The MAC is quickly becoming a power conference in Wrestling, UB should be competitive this season.

Atta Boy Tim B!

Bulls Improve to 3-0 in NECHL " University at Buffalo Hockey
Benner finished the weekend with 5 goals and 2 assists leading the way. Lantz returned from a suspension with 2 goals and an assist on Saturday. Musialowski had 32 saves on 33 shots Friday while Bradley had 20 saves on 21 shots. Defenseman Mike Pliszka (So) returned from an illness that kept him out of the lineup for 3 weeks. Through 10 games, Buffalo has outscored opponents 70-15 and outshot them 471-256. Special teams have also been a strength for the Bulls converting 36% of their powerplays and killing off 93% of penalty kills.

Tim Benner, who contributes on Bull Run had an amazing weekend. I listened to the games on WRUB and I have to say that this team sounds dominant. They are now 3-0 in NECHL play and will probably come in ranked when the next ratings are released.

Southern discomfort

Mid-Major Monday: Golden Eagles' grim goose egg - Sunday Morning Quarterback
The trajectory this year, Southern Miss' first under coach Ellis Johnson, has deteriorated almost weekly from "rebuilding" to "disappointing" to "engulfed in flames." Saturday's 59-24 loss at the hands of Marshall – in Hattiesburg – would feel like hitting rock-bottom, if USM hadn't already endured a similar low in September, in a 42-17 humiliation at Western Kentucky. Against Louisville, a former C-USA rival, the Eagles lost in a Biblical deluge. Against Boise State, they lost after committing four turnovers in the first half alone. Against East Carolina, they lost after committing three turnovers on the first three possessions of the second half. At least against Central Florida, they mustered the self-respect to lose in overtime.

Conference USA had two very good schools last season... This year they have just Tulsa!

I suppose it has to be talked about

UB notebook: Mack shows stuff on screen - Sports - The Buffalo News
Pitt’s Tino Sunseri tossed a screen pass to Rushel Shell who would have scored had the junior linebacker not tracked him down from behind like a piranha in pursuit of a minnow some 41 yards later. What was even more striking - and the reason why Mack is one of the nation’s top linebackers - is that he came from the opposite end of the field to make the play.

Ok just one comment... Really Buffalo News... you're going pay site on us? Sadly the Buffalo news move means I will not be able to link them as often. It's not a hard rule around here but I don't like sending readers to sites where you have to pay to join.

Fortunately the Spectrum should always be free!

Homecoming blues - Sports - The Spectrum - University at Buffalo
The loss leaves the Bulls without a win against Football Bowl Subdivison (FBS) competition this season, as they end the non-conference portion of the schedule. They will play their last five games of the season against MAC competition. It doesn’t get any easier, as Buffalo will face MAC West powerhouse Toledo (7-1, 4-0 MAC) next Saturday at UB Stadium.
