Against an Ohio team that finished substantially back of the Bulls last year, Women's Swimming and Diving took gold in six of the first seven events to jump out to a 87-44 lead and ultimately easily wrap up a dual win over a conference opponent, 185-112.
Megan Burns was a quadruple winner for the Bulls, who had at least eight second-place finishes as they flashed their depth.
We'll update this much more and have some commentary once the results filter in, but Bulls put forward a solid day to say the least. What we know for now:
UPDATE: This is now updated with full names and winners. If times are included, they're a UB season best. Maybe I'll update with personal season bests later.
The biggest thing that stands out is that while Megan Burns was a triple-winner, UB didn't need multiple event wins from Jess Powers, and on top of that got valuable points from a number of freshman. You'll see Catherine Schultheis, Kerry Giovanniello, Maddy Jacumski, Julia Box, and Mallory Buha all multiple times. All told, that more than makes up for the loss of Spencer Rodriguez to graduation and has shored up Buffalo's depth in non-freestyle events.
Ohio isn't a particularly strong team - UB beat them by roughly 100 points and two places at the MAC Championships last year - but this was a wider-than-expected win that might be a sign for this year's championships. We'll learn more over the next month.
