This is the first edition of the Buffalo Weekly Recruiting Roundup. Each week I plan on giving an update on the 2022 & 2023 recruiting boards. Additionally will give any information on new offers, players taking visits, or new commits. I plan on dropping this every Thursday or Friday depending on the week.
This week for 2022 we saw one new offer go out to LB Jahleel Culbreath. Watched a little film on him and he plays very fast, and can hit. Seems to fit in with the type of defensive style UB is going for under first year defensive coordinator Joe Cauthen. Also this week we saw OL Jackson Brown who reportedly had interest in UB commit to Cal. The staff was hopeful UB would be in his top 6, but we were not. OL is still an important spot for the staff to fill, with 4 or 5 outstanding offers out. The top 3 targets in this group are definitely Adams, Slappy, and McCree. All 3 are getting significant interest across the country but there likely aren’t many schools that can offer close to immediate planning time on the line like UB can. The other area to watch is defensive back / safety. The staff has extended quite a few offers and most of them are to pretty high profile players. I would expect this is the area UB can over recruit their average with Coach Mo, Coach Ojong and Coach Thompson leading the way.
Below is the 2023 recruiting board. Only a handful of offers out from the staff so far but more should be coming in the next few weeks. September 1st was the first day coaches can engage in recruiting related discussion (which is why you saw all recruits retweeting graphics from schools). I did not see a lot of graphics from UB but I assume that had to do with them playing a Thursday weekday game and preparing. Even though the 2023 class is light with offers so far there are some names to watch. The staff has already offers a QB in Braylen Ragland. He currently holds offers from Memphis and Tennessee. Additionally names to watch are Triston Sion, CJ Hester, and Denzel Moore. CJ Hester is a RB from the Cincinnati area, where Coach Daniels is very familiar. Denzel Moore is a highly rated prospect who holds offers from Michigan and Georgia Tech. He is originally from Buffalo and still has Buffalo in his top 5. He did a good piece with Rivals on his recruitment and says he plans on visiting Buffalo for a game in the fall. I retweeted this on my twitter page. Lastly is Tristen Sion, who is a DB from Florida. He holds offers from LSU, Baylor, West Va etc. but there is good reason to believe he is still considering UB. I spoke with him last week and he told me he is planning to get up to Buffalo for a game this season and still considering UB amongst the P5 offers. Additionally he has the speed and size to be able to step in a make an immediate impact in the UB Secondary, so a chance to be coached by an elite defensive back coach like Coach Mo has to be appealing.
That is it for this weeks roundup. Appreciate everyone reading and Go Bulls!
