Can I ask a question?

Am I irrationally set against the spud bowl? Week after week I either groan about it being in, or celebrate it being out, and many people tell me “It’s a great bowl”.

My main reasons against the Bowl in Boise is not that it’s a rotten town, it’s not... Nor that winter bowls are awful, they are not.

It’s that getting to Boise on such short notice is stupid expensive, that’s going to suppress attendance, especially among students and recent grads. The key areas we need to grow support in.

Give us a Bowl in Florida, or even in Alabama and kids can fly to a near-ish airport on a cheap flight (Orlando / Atlanta) and rent a car with some friends to drive. Maybe out of pocket a three to five hundred dollar trip per person if several friends go.

But Boise? Just the flight is going to run you about $1,000 dollars. It’s normally about a 400$ flight but on that week the prices double, because supply and demand. Meanwhile the major airports on the east coast are so busy all year that bowl flights are a small bump to them.

I probably can’t go no matter what because of family obligations but let’s say my calendar was clear.

I go to my wife and say “Hey I want to fly down to Florida this weekend to watch the Bowl game, I need to spend about 300$...” She looks at me sideways because she’s not into sports, but she loves me and says “have fun”.

I go to my wife and say “Hey I want to fly to Boise this weekend to watch the Bowl game, I needs to spend about 1,100$...” She looks at me sideways because she’s not into sports, she loves me but still laughs uncontrollably...

All this to say thatI don’t hate Boise, I hate getting there...

Anyway in case you haven’t guessed by now, Boise is back but only by one projection. Most everyone has us at the Dollar General and Sports Illustrated has us filling in for the First Responder Bowl.
