Courtney Gilbert transferring from Buffalo Softball to Detroit-Mercy
"Gilbert, 18, made her NCAA debut south of the border last year with the University at Buffalo Bulls softball program, and despite putting up solid numbers (54 games played, .232 avg., 2 HR, 14 RBI) the Delhi District Secondary School grad didn't quite feel at home.
"I had a great year, don't get me wrong," Gilbert, a middle infielder, said from PEI as she prepares for the Women's Canadian Championships. "It was a good time and I enjoyed myself, but at the end of the day I wasn't myself when I was there and I wanted to continue to develop my softball career while still being the athlete that I am ... I think I've found that (opportunity) with Detroit.""
Slightly surprising news, but I'm not as closely dialed in to Softball as I am other UB teams, and I can't disagree with Courtney's estimation that she fell short of her standard as a freshman. We'd of course love for her to meet that standard here in Buffalo, but wish her best of luck in Detroit.
