Women's Tennis goes 6-2 in singles and 3-2 in doubles to open WVU Invitational

I'll have a full recap of the tournament when it all ends on Sunday, but for now, important things from Day 1:

UB looks very strong in singles. Each of the top five won their first matches, and that's including freshmen Chantal Martinez-Blanco and Sunjana Sudhir. Thanks to those two, Tanja Stojanovska, Margarita Kotok, and Laura Holterbosch, UB will have five semifinalists across the top three singles flights.

Dayana Agasieva and Mercedes Losada Rubio each lost their opening matches in Flight D, but Christine Haraldson won her first match in the round robin Flight E.

UB was slightly less successful in doubles, but still posted a winning record. Pairings of Kotok/Agasieva and Stojanovska/Holterbosch each received byes, but only the latter advanced to the final (in Flight B). Sudhir and Martinez-Blanco won a pair of matches to reach the final in Flight C, and Rubio and Haraldson lost their first match in Flight B.

Tomorrow will see all the doubles flights finish up and a single round of singles play in each flight.
