How did our 2010 Oppoenents do this week?

I can't say that I am disappointed at Temple coughing up the MAC East again. For the second year in a row they hype was all about Temple overlooking the most successful MAC East program over the past five years.

We started to write the OU game recap, and then remembered that we gave up a safety on a kickoff. This game deserves no recap.

VIDEO: UCF coach George O’Leary talks about 61-14 win at Tulane – Knights Notepad – Orlando Sentinel
“It was a good productive day for the offense, defense and special teams,” O’Leary said. “I thought we got a lot of punt return yards, kick return yards and we covered very well in the kickoff coverage game. I’m real pleased with the team and I thought went out and executed very well.”

Connecticut Huskies vs. Syracuse Orange - Recap - November 20, 2010 - ESPN
Jordan Todman ran for 130 yards and scored on two short runs, and Connecticut capitalized on two turnovers to beat Syracuse 23-6 on Saturday night. It was the third straight win overall and fourth straight over Syracuse for the Huskies (6-4, 3-2 Big East), who won their first road game of the season to become bowl-eligible.

Here's what I am thinking. Through the year, and especially over the past 4 weeks, I thought we were making at least marginal improvement on the defensive side of the ball. The offense was clearly struggling badly, but I believed, in general, that our team was moving in the right direction.

Over The Pylon
When the clock reads zero on Saturday afternoon, the result will have no meaning on the closing date of the Cards season. At 5-7 with a win or 4-8 without, the Cardinals season will be done all the same. However, that one game difference between 4 and 5 this particular year makes all the difference in the world.

Temple Football Forever
What is Temple football? To me, it's running the ball behind a line that averages 318-pounds with an NFL first-round draft choice. I love Matty Brown. Love the kid. He's a change-of-pace back at best and a fill-in who can get you 226 in a pinch against Army. I want my NFL first-rounder back on the field and, failing that, I would like to give a bigger back (Ahkeem Smith) a shot to carry the ball next week and chew some clock. Then throw play-action off the run.

Zips fumble away hopes to win first game
With just more than a minute left on the clock, Rob Ianello called timeout to give the replay referee the time to take another look at the play. Someone in the booth should have told Akron's coach that it was an open-and-shut case: fumble beyond a reasonable doubt. As a result, the Zips had expended their last timeout and could not stop the clock after Miami took over.
