Buffalo Bulls Wrestling at #22 Central Michigan Chippewas recap: Chippewas dominate 30-9

Outside of Missouri, CMU is the toughest team in the MAC and it showed in today as UB Wrestling lost 30-9 in Mount Pleasant.

Kyle Akins started the match off with a 6 point forfeit victory because CMU's Brent Fleetwood is still banged up with a foot/ankle injury and got UB a sizable lead early. Corey Keener jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the 1st period against Bryan Lantry and Lantry was unable to overcome the early deficit and fell by major decision. Things wouldn't get much better for UB as both Brandon Lapi and Colt Cotten fell to nationally ranked opponents; Lapi by decision 9-3 and Cotten by major decision 14-3. Tim Schaefer gave up a major decision as well at 157 pounds - the 3rd given up in the opening 4 matches, giving CMU a commanding 15-6 lead.

Rrok Ndokaj was able to stop the bleeding at 165 pounds and get UB their first victory of the day on the mat. Ndokaj was down heading into the 3rd 2-1, but utilized and escape, takedown and back points to secure the 8-3 win. Ndokaj kept the match close late and was able to use his conditioning to dictate the pace of the match late and was able to take advantage of his opponent being gassed.

I've been around wrestling for quite some time but I've never seen a wrestler be disqualified for giving up too many stalling points. Until today. Muhamed McBryde kept backing off the mat and wouldn't circle in so the referee was hitting him for stalling left and right; and they weren't ticky tack calls, they were by-the-books stalling calls. The disqualification was a 6 point victory for CMU and all but sealed the dual meet.

After Joe Ariola fell at 184 pounds; James Benjamin gave up a takedown late in the 3rd period and was overcome by the riding time point in a close 8-9 decision. Finally, Jake Gunning fell in 6 overtimes to Adam Robinsion.

UB wasn't able to do much on their feet against the Chippewas and it showed in the final results; UB falls to and even 8-8 on the season and will be back home on February 12th to take on Binghamton.
