Opening up their MAC dual slate at Eastern Michigan, John Stutzman's Bulls were walking into the first in a long line of grueling MAC dual meets. Eastern Michigan was coming off of a 34-0 shutout victory over Michigan State in which the Eagles only gave up 1 takedown.
The match began at 165 pounds and UB would get into a hole early, going down 13-0 before Jake Gunning broke the shutout at 285 pounds with a 6-3 decision. Gunning's 3 takedowns were more than the entire Michigan State team had, a testament to how tough this EMU squad is.
But, things wouldn't get any easier for the Bulls as Gunning's 3 points would be the only that the team would earn. Colt Cotten was handed his first loss of the season by nationally ranked Nick Barber after a back-and-forth match where the men traded takedowns and escapes but Barber came out on top 8-6.
It's a disappointing loss for sure but the Bulls will return to the mat this upcoming Friday when they open their home slate against Gardner-Webb at 7 PM in Alumni Arena.
