After nearly a month in-between dual meets the Buffalo Bulls (4-6, 0-3 MAC) took on the Northern Iowa Panthers (6-3, 3-0 MAC) still looking for their first MAC dual meet win, and while coming close in a couple of matches, were ultimately shut out by the Panthers 37-0.
The Bulls were without a trio of regular starters: Jason Estevez, who was injured during the Southern Scuffle, Joe Ariola, and Wally Maziarz; already one of the youngest starting lineups in the nation got even younger and more inexperienced and it showed.
Senior Max Soria was beaten 12-0 by #6 Dylan Peters, an All-American and #2 ranked wrestler in the MAC, to start the match. Then, freshman sensation Sean Peacock was pinned by Leighton Gual at 133 pounds, and Rocco Russo, wrestling in place of Estevez was beaten 9-2 by Jake Hodges.
In the two closest matches for the Bulls, Justin Cooksey was edged by Gunnar Wolfensperger 10-8 in a fantastic bout; and Rrok Ndokaj, one UB"s steadiest wrestlers, took Taylor Berger to overtime, but was taken down during the sudden death period to lose the match.
I wasn't able to watch the meet myself so I can't comment on the individual performances, but Northern Iowa is consistently one of the top-3 teams in the MAC and are always a tough out. The Bulls will return to the mat tomorrow for a double-header against South Dakota State and Dakota Wesleyan, stay tuned to Bull Run for updates.
