The strong start to the season continues. With two wins in hand, Buffalo took on the Manhattan Jaspers and gave them a basketball clinic. Thirteen Bulls put points on the board, giving Buffalo a balanced scoring attack. UB also had their best defensive effort since February in the 73-39 demolishing.
The Bulls came out of the gate strong in the first quarter like they have all season. JoAnna Smith found a lot of scoring through the free throw line while six other Bulls were able to find some scoring before the quarter ended at a 21-9 margin.
So far this season, we’ve come to see the offense slow down once the second quarter arrives but Buffalo kept pushing. After capping off a four point play in the quarter prior, Gabi Bade would sink two more shots from beyond the arc. The shock of this part of the game was Theresa Onwuka. In only three minutes of play, the freshman threw down 7 points and showcased her ability to drive into the post. With 20 minutes in the books, Buffalo lead 40-16.
With the game practically in hand, Buffalo gave practically equal minutes to all of their players and kept running up the score over an awful Manhattan team. During this half, we finally saw some play from Lawrencia Moten. She played well in the fourth quarter and finished the night with 9 points.
Gabi Bade lead Buffalo with 11 points on 50% shooting. Three other Bulls also had solid nights as JoAnna Smith, Summer Hemphill, and Theresa Onwuka had 10, 9, and 9 points respectively.
The Bulls hit the road for the first time this season as they take on Duquesne on Nov. 22. Tip-off will be at 1:00 PM and there will most likely be a stream.
