Buffalo Bulls vs Canisius Golden Griffins Women's Basketball Recap: Bulls Grab 54-40 Win

UB Athletics

After a very weak first quarter by UB, the women's basketball team grabbed a great 54-40 win thanks to a second quarter surge. UB had its difficult moments on the offensive side of the ball but when certain players got in a rhythm, UB pulled away.

Shooting was a struggle in the first quarter. UB shot 2-16 from the field and struggled to get any offensive production. An entirely different team showed up to start the next quarter thanks to great coaching by Coach Jack. UB started things up with a 9-0 run thanks to a spark by Brittany Morrison. From there it was the Stephanie Reid show as she put up 8 points before the half. The second half was spent cruising and eating up a lot of clock.

UB absolutely dominated when it came to rebounding. Buffalo had 46 rebounds compared to a total of 30 brought up by Canisius. The offensive board total was even better at 19 to 6 favoring UB, leading to a plethora of second chance points. Stephanie Reid led the Bulls with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Reid overshadowed good days by Katherine Ups and Joanna Smith as they finished with 10 and 9 points respectively.

Among the problems that showed throughout the game, nothing stuck out more than UB's three point shooting. The Bulls only shot for 19% from beyond the arc. Free throw shooting was tough to watch again as UB was 6-11 from the line.

The Bulls are back in action on Saturday as they take on UMass at 5:00 PM in the Massachusetts version of Amherst. We'll have more on the game tomorrow with takeaways.
