After earning their first win of the year against an undersized Navy team yesterday - click through on the sidebar for more - UB Volleyball returned to the court in Syracuse today for a pair of matches against New Hampshire and the host Orange.
Against better teams than Navy, Buffalo dropped both matches in straight sets. UB was close against 6-7 UNH, who I thought might be vulnerable, in falling 25-23, 25-21, 25-22. I don't know right now the score of the second set against Syracuse, but the final match was a more lopsided affair, with Buffalo scoring only 13 and 16 points in the first and third.

There's no boxscore for Syracuse yet, but against UNH the Bulls were consistent and strong from start to finish, hitting .203 on the match and averaging 41 attacks a set. That's a sign of the offense getting to work more frequently off better passing from the back row. Valisha Watkins (14 kills to 9 errors) had the best game of her young career, and Megan Lipski continued her hot streak with 15 kills against 5 errors.
Tessa Ooyama once again struggled in serve reception, with six reception errors, but that was the only red flag in the box score. Cassie Shado, Akeila Lain, and Megan Wernette combined for 13 kills. I might like to see more there.
