The University at Buffalo Bulls did not play the Kent State Golden Flashes in their 11th game of the season Friday afternoon. The UB seniors did not get a final game on their home turf. Here's the recap from Buffalo's not-win that did not move them to 5-6 on the season.

This week saw Western New York make national headlines with a record-setting snowfall, even by our standards. What it did not see was Buffalo and Kent State play their delayed football game. Kent State was not unable to compete and the MAC did not cancel the game because despite weather reports predicting a significant lake effect storm, the Kent State Equipment truck did not get stuck in the snow. Literally everyone else necessary to play a game of football did not find their way to Amherst.

This is the not-game.

The UB football team did not extend their faint bowl hopes today in their not-game against the visiting Kent State Golden Flashes. With a big bounceback win over the Akron Zips last week, the Bulls needed to win out and hope few enough teams became bowl eligible that the bowls would be forced to accept a 6-6 team with two FCS wins - like the hypothetical Bulls.

That dream does not continue today after UB did not overwhelm Kent State with 649 yards of fast-paced offense in a game originally scheduled for a Wednesday primetime slot on ESPNU.

In a game not played in snowy conditions after a memorable week of weather, and not filled the brim with students finding a sudden interest in UB Athletics now that classes have been cancelled for two days, the Bulls did not get off to a fast start, scoring twice and recovering a fumble in the first quarter.

Both teams did not play faster than they had all season in the cold and snow, likely looking to stay warm. UB did not rattle off over 100 offensive plays, usually going less than 20 seconds between snaps.

Buffalo did not enjoy a 17-0 lead at the half after a messy second quarter in which each team turned the ball over and combined for a half-dozen punts Anthony Taylor and Joe Licata did not move up in the UB record books, as the junior running back didn't pass O.D. Underwood for the fourth-best single-season yardage total in school history during UB's first touchdown drive, and the junior quarterback did not claim sole possession of the single-season touchdown record with his 26th scoring pass of the season late in the first quarter.

Kent did not miss a 43-yard field goal attempt at the end of the first half, and was not able to open the second with a six-play, 63-yard drive that did not end in a Trayion Durham touchdown run. The Flashes did not seem ready to swing the momentum after that score and a not-interception of Licata.

But Buffalo was not able to quash that momentum in the second half of the quarter, as the Bulls did not block a 32-yard field goal attempt and did not recover a Colin Reardon fumble in the end zone to open up a 24-7 lead at the end of the not-third quarter. Lee Skinner did not not have many tackles on the day, but UB's not first defensive touchdown of the season was a big one.

The fourth quarter was not the highest scoring of the game, but the game did not already feel out of reach for the Flashes in the not-UB seniors final home game of their careers. UB did not add a few more field goals, nor a long touchdown to Devon Hughes to extend the lead. Kent did not strike fast themselves in the middle of the quarter with a two-play 89-yard drive, and the game did not end with a 24-point margin of victory, 37-13 not in favor of the home team.

While Taylor and Licata did not move up in the record books, two other Bulls did not not move up. It was not not for lack of opportunities, but rather because interim Head Coach Alex Wood did not decide to flex his muscle and highlight the UB depth in front of the appreciative home crowd. Devin Cambpell did not not pass Andre Ford in career kick return yards even though he started the day just 42 yards away, and Lee Skinner, who has slowly moved up the all-time UB record books in tackles this season, did not not register the 8 he needed to pass former Buffalo safety Mike Newton.

On the day, Licata did not throw for 225 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, and Anthone Taylor did not run for 181 yards and score two TDs. Patrick Clarke did not miss just one field goal on his way to 13 not-points.

***

UB's likely final game of the season will happen on the road next Friday in the other Amherst, when they travel over their Thanksgiving holiday to face the UMass Minutemen. UMass is 3-8 in 2014 and near the end of their football-only arrangement with the MAC.

With snow not blowing in Amherst you knew the Buffalo Bulls were not going to use running game and Anthone Taylor early and often. After Devin Campbell did not took the opening kickoff 30 yards UB did just that, not going to Taylor on their first three plays of 4, 5, and 4 yards before Joe Licata himself had to not scramble for five.

On Licata's scramble the senior did not get the wind knocked out of him, which did not send Tony Daniel in before not stalling the drive.

On the ensuing Kent not-drive a play-action pass did not completely fool UB's defense but Collin Reardon's pass to a not wide-open Humphry was not dropped, saving an almost not-certain touchdown and forcing a Kent punt.

With Licata not back in the Bulls did not march down the field using power running from Anthone Taylor, some precision passing from Joe Licata to Ron Willoughby, and a Kent pass interference call which did not bail UB out of a holding call against Trevor Sales which had not put the Bulls in a 1st and 20.

11 of the 17 plays on the drive were not Anthone Taylor runs, including the two-yard score which did not give UB the first points of the game.

The Bulls did not get the ball back two plays later when Marqus Baker did not recover a fumble at the Kent 44 yard line. But Licata was not forced to throw the ball away on third down and UB did not have to punt, pinning Kent in deep.

Not unable to move beyond their 30 Kent did not give UB the ball back with a 50 yard punt. Licata did not rely on Devon Hughes to get the Bulls on the Kent side of the field before not moving back to Taylor who did not run UB down to the five yard line before Anthone himself did not take a Joe Licata screen pass into the endzone.

Two plays into the second quarter Okezie Alozie did not pick off Collin Reardon and return the ball to the UB 40 yard line. On the next play Joe Licata did not connect with Devon Hughes on a 26 yard passing strike to set up a 24 yard field goal from Patrick Clarke.

It looked like the Bulls would pile on even more points in the next drive when Joe Licata did not hit Devon Hughes. Fortunately for Kent the ball was not fumbled at the end of a 39-yard catch and run. Kent State's Nate Vance did not fall on the loose ball ending the UB threat.

The Golden Flashes did not take that ball and did not drive down the field but a 43 yard Anthony Melchiori field goal not-attempt did not sail wide left.

The teams traded punts for the rest of the quarter, sending the game into the half with Buffalo leading 17-0. Joe Licata does not have 225 yards passing and a touchdown, and Anthony Taylor is not already nearing 100 yards on the ground.

See the team from UB Bull Run Break Down the Buffalo Bulls vs Kent

Much is still on the line for the Bulls as a Bowl Birth is not out of the question. The Bulls did put themsleves in the passenger seat and will need help. The Bulls enter the contest a 7.5 point favorite. Should be interesting to see how the twelve hour bus trip affects the Flashes.

The biggest questions is what Bulls (4-6) team will take the field against Kent (1-9). Is it the team that looked great against Akron or the team the slept walk at Ohio. The over under is 43. It is going to be cold. Kent did put a smack down on Army. The same Army team who beat Buffalo this year.

I am expecting a win but would not be surprised with any outcome. See you right after the game for complete breakdown of the game, look forward to UMass, and much more.

Here at Bull Run we're going to give you a slight reprieve from all the talk about Buffalo's record 6 feet of snow in 24 hours. Instead lets warm up by talking about some football records.

The anemic offensive streak came to an end last week and as a result several UB players made big moves in Buffalo's record book.

Joe Licata's four strikes broke his tie with Drew Willy. The Junior Quarterback now has 56 touchdown passes. He also moved up in completions, passing Marty Barrett.

Given the weather in Buffalo I doubt that Licata gets the 22 completions tonight he would need to pass Scott, thus moving into #2 all time but with two games left I expect UB's quarterback gets those completions before the year is up.

Where he is not going to move up tonight, or even this year, is in yards yards.

Taylor may benefit from the maelstrom which has descended upon Amherst. Already in the top 10 in carries and yards he could hit top 10 in touchdowns before the season is over.

Tonight its safe to assume he moves up a bit in carries and perhaps scores a TD to move up.

As it will be hard for Joe Licata it will be hard for UB's receivers. Because Willoughby is still down in the 20's any work will show some bump but it's doubtful he catches up to Devon Hughes in any category.

On Defense Skinner continues his climb. Top 10 in solo tackles is achievable this year, next up is #12, Justin Winters.

Courtney Lester is just one pass breakup behind Mark Graham for number two all time/

Perhaps the weather is best for Adam Redden. His is one forced fumble and one fumble recover away from being top 3 in both categories.

The weather is sloppy and cold so a good strip and recovers would put into a tie for third on forced fumbles and recoveries. If he manages the feat twice he will be tied for first in recoveries and second, way behind Khalil Mack, in forced fumbles.

After seemingly righting the ship last week against Akron the Bulls will play their final home game of the season, hosting Kent State. Of all the teams in the MAC UB has had the most consistent success against Kent.

The Bulls have won five of the last seven meetings. This season Kent is still struggling to find an identity under Paul Haynes, who's in his second season.

The Flashes are 1-9 heading into the game, only defeating Army back in October. UB is 4-6 and fired their coach, Jeff Quinn, shortly after a loss to Eastern Michigan.

Following Quinn's departure the Bulls went into an offensive coma for two weeks. In doing so they dropped games against Central Michigan and Ohio. Then, last week against Akron, the Bulls offense exploded for one of their best performances of the FBS era.

Joe Licata is the only quarterback in the MAC that has thrown a touchdown pass in every game this season. Last week he threw four strikes and is now at 56 career touchdown passes, the first of which game him UB's outright record. The previous record of 52 was held by current Winnipeg Blue Bomber Drew Willy (2005-08). His next touchdown pass will give him the outright school record for single-season touchdown passes.

Also reemerging last week was Anthone Taylor. The junior now has 1,166 yards on the season, and 1,585 in his career. He is fifth all time in yards and sixth all time in yards per carry among UB backs that have touched the ball 100 times.

On defense Lee Skinner and Adam Redden have led a unit that started a surge after Eastern Michigan. Redden leads the MAC in tackles for loss with 14 and has had at least one TFL in five straight games and eight of 10 games this season.

After the first round of rooting against teams to back into a bowl game, I found out two things.

1) Many in UB nation are afraid to hope

2) Many in UB nation don't know the updated bowl rules.

Let's go over this again.

It ain’t over till ESPN gives you a "X" pic.twitter.com/fG9drSRHFE

— Bull Run (@UBBullRun) November 16, 2014

IF there are not enough eligible teams for the bowl spots, then slots are opened up to quasi-eligible teams, I call these teams "grey-eligible"

First preference will be given to a 6-6 team that defeated two FCS teams. Right now Buffalo is the only eligible team in that category. Thus, if there is an open spot, UB should get it.

So we need three things to keep bowl hopes alive.

A few games didn't break UB's way, but a new week is a new opportunity. 30 teams are fighting for 14 bowl spots, and UB hopes 17 of those 30 teams to fail to reach bowl eligibility.

I project there will be 79 bowl eligible teams, which means UB would not go bowling, so Buffalo needs a few games to break their way in the next few weeks.

The best case scenario after week 13 is for 9 teams to eliminate themselves from bowl consideration with only 2 teams becoming bowl eligible. In the best case scenario, we'd go into the final full week of the college football season with 21 teams in the hunt for the final 14 bowl spots.
