40-20. It was everything you reasonably could have asked from Buffalo given the task at hand.

What if that hands to the face penalty did not negate UB getting the ball at the one, when the Bulls were only down ten. What if Licata did not fumble the exchange on the next drive

It's great to play games with what if's to see just how UB could have shocked the world but alas "If if's and buts were candy and nuts"..

The Bulls could have done it but in the end they played well, stayed healthy, and the check cleared. Mission accomplished.

Last year's Georgia game should have helped UB fans learn that these week one games against power teams do not really prove your real strength one way or the other.

You can be a good team and get blown out, you can be a bad team and hang tight. In the Mid American Conference we have seen both in recent years. Teams get blown out only to win their division and squads play hard nosed games with pride only to limp along the rest of the year.

What is not in question is that Khalil Mack is who we have been saying he is all along. Mack is one of the best linebackers in college football and probably the best ever to wear a UB uniform.

If he stays healthy he is a round one pick in this years NFL draft. Whether or not Urban Meyer pretends to know his name or not is of no consequence. The college football world no knows the name Khalil Mack.

Aside from Mack the depth at linebacker impressed me, including Blake bean who was called the player who was going to have a break out year by David "BrandedBull".

Colby Way looked good and that is a reflection on the job Beau Bachtelle did in his first game replacing Steven means.

Najja Johnson looked pedestrian against the Ohio State receivers and while a lot of that can be hung on situations where UB only rushed three some also falls on an apparent inability to track the ball in the air. It's something to watch as UB goes to Baylor.

Joe Licata is not quite playing at the level where we saw Drew Willing in 2007 but he is close, and if he is already there then the potential for a career brighter than any had by a UB quarterback in the modern era. Of course that all hinges on UB finding a replacement for Alex Neutz, heck even someone to be a threat along with Neutz this season would be nice.

While we wait for the receivers to come up at least the Tight Ends can carry the load. Both Mason Schreck and Matt Wieser had solid games.

One game proves nothing, but two? two solid games against hig level AQ competition? That is something we can hopefully look forward to this week. Enough with the Buckeye's.... Bring on the Bears!

It was not that much of a surprise -- heading into the season, there was talk of NFL teams eyeing him as a potential 2014 first-round pick. He led Buffalo on Saturday with 9.5 tackles and made 2.5 sacks and an interception, which he returned 45 yards for a touchdown midway through the second quarter. Buffalo finished with four sacks and nine tackles for loss against a Buckeyes team that was returning four starting offensive linemen.

NFL.com draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah Tweeted during the game about the reaction he was seeing from NFL evaluators. Mack (6 feet 3, 251 pounds) now has 58.5 tackles for loss in his career; he is 16.5 shy of setting the NCAA career record for tackles for loss.

The realistic goal of the weekend was that UB did not embarrass themselves, stayed healthy, and that Ohio States check cleared. Mission Accomplished. In fact if you put aside the games first ten minutes UB was nearly Ohio State's egual.

Ohio state entered opening week as 35 point favorite against the Buffalo Bulls and early on in the game it looks like they would cover that spread by the half. But the Bulls dug down and found a way to keep within reach of Ohio State for most of the contest.

Buffalo's first drive featured Joe Licata, UB's Sophomore Quarterback, finding Alex Neutz on several short passed as the Bulls developed a rhythm that forced Urban Meyer to take a timeout just two minutes into the game. After that timeout though the wheels came off for Buffalo.

After two penalties Buffalo booted a short punt to Ohio State and the Buckeyes used three runs to set up a 47 yard touchdown pass between Heisman Candidate Braxton Miller and Devin Smith. Meyer would go for two points on the conversion and put UB down 8-0.

Ohio would score 23 points in the first Quarter holding UB at bay until Joe Licata hit Matt Weiser for 16 yard score. Khalil Mack picked off Braxton Miller five plays later taking the interception 47 yards for a touchdown to make the score 23 to 13.

Seven minutes before the half Jordan Hall ripped off a 37 yards for to make the score 30-13.

Buffalo came out on fire in the second forcing a three and out before Joe Licata ledt the Bulls on a 7 play 62 yards which ended with at 10 yard touchdown pass to Alex Neutz. The following drive a 15 yard personal foul negated a Buffalo fumble recovery at the one yard line allowing Ohio Miller to lead his team on a 91 yard drive that put UB down by 17 points.

The Buckeyes bottled up Branden Oliver who was missing his blocking full back Boomer Brock. The UB star was held to less than three yards a carry but Alex Neutz and Joe Licata Hooked up 9 times for 98 yards and a Touchdown.

Khalil Mack, in his hunt for an NCAA record recorded 9 tackles (7solo), 2 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, and an interception returned for a touchdown.

The Bulls have no answer for Ohio State Running back Jordan Hall who's 159 yards also produced 2 touchdowns. While Braxton Millers 78 yards was enough to capture the records for most Rushing Yards by an Ohio State Quarterback.

Buffalo takes on Baylor next week while the Buckeye's host San Diego State.

Licata

12 for 23 for 95 yards 1 TD and a tipped ball INT.

Note: 23 passes in the half? Last year Zordich threw the ball only 24 times in the whole game. I wanted to see us protect Licata with the run game, and we are not. Oh well. Licata looked good early, his deep ball is not there, and now his short stuff seems to be uncertain. This is where you worry about a young QB losing confidence in himself.

BO

No real impact today, 13 for 32. Is the lack of a running QB option hurting BO? He did his damage with swift QBs Anderson and Zordich. A few 3rd and shorts today the defense stacked the box and forced BO to go through..would love to see Zordich in on those plays.

Neutz

5 for 42. Solid as usual.
The help has 7 catches for 53 yards which is pretty good for Buffalo.

Johnson

Got burned on the first TD, the 3 man rush is doing him no favors.

Mack

Amazing showing, his bull rush has made Tackles look like RBs trying to block him. If we ever have him not rushing the QB we are wasting everyone's time.

Coaching

Bro do we even watch tape? This coaching job is poor. It's a testament to OSU's inexperience and our athleticism that we are in the game, because we are losing matchups everywhere and not taking advantage of the matchups we are winning.

When Buffalo takes foot in the Horseshoe on Saturday afternoon, they'll be taking on a monster of a program unlike anything they've faced before.

Sure, the Bulls have taken on a plethora of highly ranked teams and BCS opponents over the past decade but they have never taken on a team quite as dangerous as the Ohio State squad they'll line up against tomorrow afternoon.

Second-year head coach Urban Meyer leads the Buckeyes as they went undefeated in his first season leading the scarlet and grey.

Meyer has been successful wherever he's been, starting at Bowling Green before pit stops at Utah and Florida before finally coming back home to Ohio.

The coaching match-up features a rematch of the 2010 Sugar Bowl in which Meyer's Florida Gators squad crushed current Bulls coach Jeff Quinn’s Bearcats 51-24 in what will forever be remembered as Tim Tebow’s final college game.

Quinn has a large amount of respect for his coaching peer and the team he leads.

Meyer’s Buckeyes are led on offense by Heisman hopeful quarterback Braxton Miller.

Miller is a multi-threat quarterback that will give Buffalo problems all day Saturday.
