Allen Greene Leaves Auburn

+

Former Buffalo AD Allen Greene, up until yesterday, the AD at Auburn, has left Auburn five months before his contract would expire, and just one week before the football season will begin. There is speculation that the tumultuous offseason for Auburn football coach Bryan Harsin, hired by Greene, is part of the reason.

Binghamton considering adding men's hockey.

+

So, I know this horse has been beaten to death, but now Binghamton, a fellow SUNY D-I school, is looking at possibly adding men's hockey. Might this finally be the thing that lights a fire under the folks in Amherst to make adding hockey a priority at UB?

1958 Football Team to be Inducted into Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame

+

Great article by Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News on the 1958 football team, which declined an invitation to the Tangerine Bowl because the Bowl prohibited black players from participating. Two of the UB players were black. The article has current quotes from the surviving team members.

How Alabama became an SEC powerhouse overnight on its way to possibly changing college basketball

What Nate Oats has done at Alabama: "The concept is not novel, though it is still fairly progressive at the college level: shoot almost exclusively either 3-pointers or at-the-rim 2-pointers. Bama bombs away from anywhere on the court when it comes to the 3-point shot, but it is avoiding mid-range shots like the plague. Alabama operates like an NBA team in a college world and has separated itself philosophically in the process. The Tide's focus is on dashing in dunks, layups, put-backs and bunnies to buttress its 3-point attack. This combines two of the most efficient shots in the sport to account for nearly 85% of the team's total shots. That tiny remaining slice of pie is reserved for non-layups and non-3-pointers."

Nate Oats and Alabama now Top 10

5

The Alabama Crimson Tide, coached by Nate Oats, are now ranked in the Top 10 nationally (well actually, #10). He's got some really outstanding 3-point shooters on his team. He's not going to let Nick Saban recruit them to be tight ends. (I just made up that last part, it doesn't say that in the article.) Honestly, I didn't think that Oats would have this level of success this fast, especially since Bobby Hurley at Arizona State hasn't gotten there yet.
