Buffalo Bulls Men's Basketball Preview: Eastern Michigan Eagles Part Deux

Matthew O'Haren-USA TODAY Sports

It's a three game home stand for the Buffalo Bulls and here's the usual preview:

Quick Facts

Head Coach: Rob Murphy (84-76, 5th year with Eastern Michigan)

Date/Time: 2/6/16, 3:30 PM

Opponent's Mascot: An eagle

Current Record: 11-11 (3-6 MAC)

2014-15 Season Record: 21-14 (8-10 MAC)

Postseason: Lost to Louisiana-Monroe in Round 1 of the CBI

All-Time Series: Buffalo leads 12-10

Wait...We've Already Played Them

Things did not go well for us at all when we faced them last. On January 12th, Buffalo traveled to Ypsilianti to build off of it's momentum of taking down one of the top teams in the conference. Eastern dominated on the defensive end and despite shutting down star freshman James Thompson for the first half, they also ran away with the offensive side of things as well.

What Has Happened Since

Since the ugly 81-69 loss, EMU has had a rough time. The Eagles lost five straight games before finally grabbing a win against Miami:

  • Lost to BG 84-79
  • Lost Akron 92-88
  • Lost to Ball State 88-87 (WITH THE MOST RIDICULOUS OFFICIATING)
  • Lost to Kent 73-58
  • Lost to WMU 94-86
  • Won against Miami 94-69
So what was different in their win in Miami? Well, Raven Lee was the difference maker. Lee went lights out and played 24 minutes en route to his 46 point game. That's tied for the highest point total in the nation so far this season. That can't happen if we're going to win this game. Buffalo should also focus on outside shooting, something they lacked last time they faced EMU's 2-3 zone.

Can We Win?

I honestly think we can go 3-0 in this three game home stand as long as True Blue continues to be loud. I'm thinking it'll be a good day for the Bulls.
