The Bulls entered MAC play picked to finsh last in the East division and they faced off against a Toledo squad picked by many to finish last in the West. An offensive explosion in the 6th and a solid outing by Alec Tuohy was just what the doctor ordered.
Alec Tuohy, who hails from nearby Gahanna got the start and gave up a home run to the lead off batter for Toledo.
The Bulls tied the game in the third inning. The frame began with a well placed bunt by Alex Thrower. The JUCO then stole both second and third base before scoring on a sacrifice fly.
In the fourth inning Vinny Mallaro led off with a double and Chris Kwitzer worked over the Toledo pitcher for a walk. A great bunt by Andrew Taft moved the batters over to second and third. Two batters later Eddie Edwards III singled in Mallaro and Kwitzer.
Tuohy started the bottom of the 4th by walking the first two batters and Toledo made him pay by scoring each of them. But with a runner on second with one out Buffalo managed to shut down the rockets to keep from falling behind.
Bobby Sheppard led off the 5th inning with a walk and was able to move to third on a wild pitch. Abrunzo reached in the next at bat and two batters later Vinny Mallaro hit an infield single which scored Sheppard and moved Abrunzo to third. Chris Kwitzer hit a fly which fell just short of the center fielders glove and this drove in Abrunzo to make the score 5-3.
The flood gates opened for UB in the 6th inning. A Sacrifice fly by Mike Abrunzo followed by a pair of two run homers by Mallaro and Andrew Taft put the Bulls up 10-3.
Toledo spend the next couple of innings getting back into the game. By the time UB got to the plate in the 9th it was a 10-7 game.
The Bulls countered with a three run frame in the top of the 9th. UB capped their scoring on a Vinny Mallaro double which scored Sheppard and Haefner.
The teams play again Saturday at 1:00PM.
