Bull Rundown Daily Open Thread: My Name Is Jonas

Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Friday, Bull Run readers! It's a busier day on the UB front than we've had all week with a pair of squads in action and with winter storm Jonas bearing down on the Eastern Seaboard it's a fine day to stay in and enjoy a cup of cocoa or whiskey if you're like me.

The Rundown

Tonight in Bull: Wrestling will be at home facing Old Dominion; the match will be broadcast on ESPN3 so be sure to tune in and chat with us in the preview/GameThread piece that was posted yesterday. Men's Tennis will be taking on their first of two Ivy league opponents in nationally ranked Cornell.

Yesterday's News: I wrote a preview for Wrestling's matchup with Old Dominion, and the Monarchs should be on upset alert. Robby and Matt had takeaways from Women's Basketball's loss to Western Michigan. Matt also had a season preview for Women's Tennis who begin their season on Saturday. Finally, Ihad a football recruiting preview piece on athlete Jordan Overton.

From the Fanshots: Men's Tennis revealed a new alternate uniform and, well....uhh, go team!

On the Docket: I'll have an instant recap of the wrestling match this evening after it concludes. Matt will have a recap of Men's Tennis's match against Cornell; along with a 'big picture questions' post for Men's Basketball in the same vein as the Women's Basketball post that he did earlier in the week. I'll have a recruiting profile on Justin Mulbah in the early afternoon as well.

Elsewhere:

Facebook is launching a new 'sports stadium' experience this weekend at the NFL's conference championship games. The service will have 4 tabs that users can navigate that feature an aggregate of friends positng about the game they are attending, posts by the teams, league or media, real time updates and up to the minute statistics. The service is expected to be rolled out across all major sports in the coming year.

The University at Buffalo will be partnering with Erie County to develop a comprehensive approach to help fight Western New York's rampant opioid abuse. In 2015 the number of opioid related deaths in Erie County skyrocketed and because UB is the only institution in the region that educates all types of health care providers they were one of the institutions chosen to spearhead the effort. UB will use a joint effort between the Schools of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy and Public Health and Health Professions as well as the School of Social Work to develop a comprehensive plan for the county to combat addiction at all levels.

It also seems like Coach Andy Kotelnicki fits in with WNY just fine. It turns out the UB Offensive Coordinator spent 8 years as a Zamboni Driver. I suppose he could drive for the Sabres if they ever needed someone on short notice.

Today's poll has more to do with the article's name than a link inside the post; there have been plenty of great songs with a person's name in the title - but which is the best? Vote below!
