Buffalo Bulls Opponent Review

On Paper there were a lot of losses in future opponent land but in terms of what our competition looked like things may be harders.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

What a week of near misses for the MAC and each one of those near misses shows that a future UB opponent may be far better than their record indicates.

Consider that Bowling Rraan lost by 3 to Memphis. Kent lost by 3 to Minnesota. CMU lost by 3, in Overtime to Syracuse, Umass lost by 2 to Temple, NIU lost by 7 to OSU, and Miami lost by 4 to UC.

Opponent Result Record Conference Record
Albany L 42-28 at JMU 1-2 CAA 1-1

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly from JMU 42 – Albany 28 | JMU Sports Blog
JMU played Albany to kick-off the 2015 CAA football season yesterday. The Dukes overcame a miserable first half, to defeat the Great Danes 42-28. The win moved JMU to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the CAA. Albany fell to 1-2 and 1-1 in league play. As they say, it was a tale of two halves. JMU did everything it could to give the game away in the first half, but rallied after the break to cruise home for a comfortable win.

Penn State W 28 - 3 vs Rutgers 2-1 B1G 1-0

Hey, Wha Happen: Penn State 28, Rutgers 3 - Black Shoe Diaries
It's no secret that Rutgers would be limping into Beaver Stadium on Saturday night after the suspension of head coach Kyle Flood this week, adding onto the loss of several players due to various off-the-field issues. However, no one knew how bad it would be until the Scarlet Knights played under the big lights in Happy Valley surrounded by a striped out blue and white crowd.

Florida Atlantic L 33 - 15 vs Buffalo 0-3 CUSA 0-0

Buffalo Bulls 33, Florida Atlantic Owls 15 - An In-Depth Breakdown - Bull Run
Breaking down one of the strangest UB victories that I've seen in my tenure, where the defense took control of the game and decided to win the game themselves.

Nevada L 44 - 27 at Texas A&M 1-2 MWC 0-0

Nevada Football: Wolf Pack's solid performance in the second half not enough as they fall to Texas A&M - Mountain West Connection
The Nevada Wolf Pack dropped their second straight game on Saturday  to the Texas A&M Aggies 44-27. It was the first time the Wolf Pack faced an SEC opponent in program history and the first meeting between the Wolf Pack and the Aggies since 1950. The Wolf Pack did play very well in the second half and looked like they were about to close the gap on Texas A&M but the deficit was too much for the Wolf Pack to overcome.

Bowling Green L 44 - 41 at Memphis 1-2 MAC 0-0

FalconBlog--Triumphs and Trials in the BGSU Falcon Nation: Memphis Recap: Close to doing something big
There's no shame in losing to Memphis.  That's a very good football team that has won 10 games in a row.  To win they had to pull out a fake punt and a flea flicker play and a big gain on 4th down.  They had to pull out all the stops...to the point where their Coach in the post-game press conference said "What just happened?"

CMU L 30 - 27 at Syrcause 1-2 MAC 0-0

Syracuse 30, Central Michigan 27: Orange Hold on, but Losing Dungey Could be Drastic - Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician
You can't make some of this stuff up. I still don't know exactly what I watched here at the Carrier Dome today, but other than  Syracuse winning to move to 3-0, nothing went as planned. Let's quickly recount some of the most bizarre things that happened:

Ohio W 35 - 14 vs SE Lousiana 2-0 MAC 0-0

Ohio Bobcats remain undefeated with 35-14 win over Southeastern Louisiana - Hustle Belt
The Ohio Bobcats found a new favorite weapon in their 35-14 win over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions Saturday. The Bobcats offense stepped up to help the team improve to 3-0 on the season.

Miami L 37 - 33 vs Cin cinnati 1-2 MAC 0-0

Cincinnati vs. Miami (OH) Final Score: Bearcats Survive, 37-33 - Down The Drive
Cincinnati wins their 10th straight in the "Battle for the Bell", defeating the RedHawks, 37-33, in Oxford, Ohio, despite some major injuries and four turnovers.

Kent L 10 - 7 at Minnesota 1-2 MAC 0-0

Minnesota Football: Gophers "Win" 10-7 over Kent State--What Next? - The Daily Gopher
The Gopher Football team used defensive supremacy to move to 2-1 on the season by defeating the Kent State Golden Flashes 10-7 at TCF Bank Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Golden Flashes only touchdown was a strip of Rashad Still that was returned 80 yards for a touchdown by Demetrius Monday, who also picked up two interceptions on the day.

NIU L 20 - 13 at Ohio State 2-1 MAC 0-0

2015 Ohio State vs. Northern Illinois final score, with 3 things to know from OSU's sloppy, uneven 20-13 win - Land-Grant Holy Land
Coming off a rough offensive week against Hawaii, Ohio State looked to get things back on track against Northern Illinois. The first drive didn't instill very much confidence against the Huskies, as Cardale Jones lofted a questionable throw that was intercepted

Akron W 52 - 9 vs Savannah 1-2 MAC 0-0

Akron Zips vs Savannah State Tigers football recap: Zips use 2nd quarter surge to roll Tigers 52-9 - Hustle Belt
Zippy might have been worried early on, but a strong second quarter surge spared her from embarrassment as the Akron Zips downed lowly FCS school Savannah State 52-9 on Saturday.  The win moves Akron to 1-2 on the year, while the loss means Savannah State will have gone over two years without a victory now.

UMass L 25 - 23 vs Temple 0-2 MAC 0-0
If any team was set up to be punched in the face, it was Massachusetts but, the Owls, like so many other times in the last three years, outsmarted  themselves by throwing the ball on their first 2d and five situation of the game and then again on their first 2d and three opportunity, which came early in the second half. Even if that play fails, you are more likely than not facing a third and 1 or a third and 2 on the next one. Then you go Temple Tuff again and punch them in the mouth. -- TFF
