27 days to kickoff: Corbin Grassman

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

Who is wearing #27 in 2015?

Corbin Grassman

Hometown: Alexander, Ohio

Year: Junior

Position: Long Snapper

High School: Johnstown-Monroe

Freshman (2013): Corbin played in all 13 games as long snapper, forced a fumble in punt coverage in the Ohio game.

Sophomore (2014): Corbin played in all 11 games as long snapper.

Outlook: With Corbin snapping to Tyler, UB's punting has improved in the past two years. Expectations are high for the cousins for their final year together, although with all the firepower on offense, we hope not to have to punt very often.

#27 UB Football Game

November 27, 2009 - UB 9, Kent 6

It was only fitting for Turner Gill's final game as coach of the Bulls to come down to the wire. It was also fitting for 2009, that the story of the game was UB turnovers and squandered opportunities.

Early in the 1st quarter UB moved the ball to Kent 11, but turned the ball over on a Zach Maynard fumble. On UB's next drive, the Bulls moved to the 13 before failing on a fake field goal. On the next drive, Maynard was intercepted.

UB got on the board following a muffed punt by Kent State. Maynard found Terrel Jackson for a 35-yard pass to the 7, but UB couldn't advance from there, settling for a A.J. Principe 24-yard field goal and a 3-0 lead.

With 65 seconds remaining in the half, a good punt return by Domonic cook set up UB 30 yards from the end zone. UB squandered that opportunity as well, when Maynard fumbled again. It was Maynard's 11th fumble of the year and his 6th lost fumble.

At this point, the UB defense had held Kent to only 42 yards of offense on 32 plays. Future MAC star Dri Archer got loose during Kent's first scoring drive, running 6 times for 54 yards leading to a 39-yard Kent field goal and a tied game.

UB's next drive was halted by a Maynard interception, his 2nd of the game and his 15th of the year. On UB's next possession the Bulls again moved inside the 10, only to be forced to kick a field goal. The Bulls led 6-3 with 7:51 remaining. On the ensuing kickoff, Dri Archer returned the kick 77 yards to the UB 13, with the kicker John Rachuna saving the touchdown. UB's defense held Kent to a field goal and the game was tied again with 5:25 remaining.

The final drive of both the Maynard and Gill eras, was a great drive. Maynard ran four times for 20 yards, drew a 15-yard personal foul and completed a pass for 5 yards. Once in field goal range, with 2 minutes left in the game, Brandon Thermilus ran 4 times for 19 yards to get the ball to the 4. With 10 seconds remaining, A.J. Principe hit the game winning field goal, to give UB the season ending win.
