#28 UB Football Game
September 17, 2011- UB 25, Ball State 28
After an opening drive where UB took a 7-0 lead from a Terrel Jackson TD pass to Marcus Rivers, UB's next 7 drives lasted 22 plays for 42 yards. This allowed Ball State's Jahwan Edwards to control the game, as he ran 10 times for 77 yards and 2 TDs in the first half to give BSU a commanding 21-7 lead.
UB regained momentum as Ball State struggled on special teams. BSU's Steven Schott missed his 2nd field goal of the game and Jaleel Verser blocked a BSU punt to give UB's offense the ball on the 26-yard line. Three plays later, Branden Oliver scored from 10-yards out to make it 21-13. On UB's 1st play of the 4th quarter, Chazz Anderson found Alex Neutz for a 45-yard TD pass. UB's 2-pt conversion failed, keeping BSU up 21-19.
After forcing a 3-and-out, UB went on an epic 14-play 86-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard Chazz Anderson plunge. Branden Oliver ran 10 times for 64 yards on the drive, but he could not put the ball in from 3-yards out on the 2-pt conversion. UB led 25-21. Important to note, UB had an extra point blocked, and failed on two 2-pt conversions. Had UB converted on their final 3 extra points, they would have led 28-21.
Needing a stop, UB forced BSU into 4th and 13, Keith Wenning converted with an 18-yard pass. With 51 seconds remaining, UB forced a 4th and 7, again Wenning converted with a 13-yard pass. With 29 seconds remaining, Ball State scored on a Wenning to Willie Snead TD pass. Ball State won 28-25. The first of two games in the 3-9 season that could have had a better outcome if UB hit their extra points.
