Who is wearing #33 in 2015?
Kyril Threats
Hometown: Buffalo, New York
Year: Senior
Position: Linebacker
High School: Canisius
Junior (2014): Threats played in every game and started against Ohio. Kyril was tied for 3rd on the team with 3 sacks, and recorded 20 tackles including a career-high five tackles in the win over Akron.
Outlook: Threats got 2nd team reps in spring, but he should still compete for a starting job at linebacker this summer, and provide depth. I'd expect him to challenge Alozie if his transition to linebacker isn't progressing as planned.
#33 UB Football Game
November 12, 2005 - UB 10, Kent State 6
Winless UB traveled to 1-win Kent State and escaped with a close win; Jim Hofher's final win as UB Coach and Drew Willy's first win as UB's Starting QB.
UB outgained Kent 178 to 93 in the first half, but only scored 3 points. UB's first deep drive ended on the 15-yard line when a Drew Willy pass on 4th and 1 fell incomplete. At the end of the half, a 37-yard Gerry McGroarty field goal sailed wide right. The defense however was strong that half. Kareem Byrom had an interception and a fumble recovery, and Ramon Guzman caught an interception in the first half to keep Kent State off the board.
Two plays into the second half, Rob Schroeder recovered a Kent fumble on the 12-yard line. Three plays later, Jared Patterson ran in for a UB touchdown and a 10-0 lead. On their next drive, Kent drove 54 yards to the 11, but were stopped there and settled for a short field goal.
In the fourth quarter, a Ben Woods punt was returned to the 11-yard line. However a Ramon Guzman sack pushed Kent back to the 17, where they settled for another short field goal, and cut the UB lead to 10-6. Kent's last drive pushed to the 22 yard line. UB again held strong forcing three straight incompletions and a turnover on downs. UB was able to hang on to the win and prevent a winless season.
