#26 UB Football Game

September 5, 2009 - UB 23, UTEP 17

Looking to defend their MAC title, and return to a bowl game, UB's 2009 started out pretty good. After falling behind by a TD, Zach Maynard completed five passes for 58 yards before Texas native Brandon Thermilus barreled into the end zone from 2-yards out. A fumbled UTEP long snap led to a UB safety, and on the ensuing free kick, Domonic Cook returned the kick 62-yards to the 25. Mario Henry ran twice for 25 yards and a UB TD and a quick 16-7 lead.

In the third quarter, Maynard found Naaman Roosevelt for a 42-yard TD pass. UB had a 23-7 lead, and it appeared we found our next great quarterback and a serviceable running back duo to replace James Starks. After that UB's offense ran out of juice, even normally reliable A.J. Principe missed a field goal to put the game out of reach. Up only 6, UTEP had 2:29 to move 80-yards for the win.

With 14 seconds left, UTEP threw the game tying touchdown, but the last sprinkle of magic 2008 dust was still on the team, and the pass was called back due to holding allowing UB to hold on for the win.
