Who is wearing #88 in 2015?
Jacob Martinez
Hometown: South Port, Florida
Year: Redshirt Sophomore
Position: Wide Receiver
High School: Bozeman
Freshman (2013): Martinez Redshirted
Redshirt Freshman (2014): Martinez played in all 11 games and started 5 with a 3-2 record as a starter. Jacob caught 28 balls for 280 yards and 3 TDs. His best outing came against Miami where he had 8 receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Outlook: Martinez, UAB transfer Collin Lisa, Marcus McGill and Jamarl Eiland will all be fighting for the #2 WR job opposite of Ron Willoughby. McGill seemed to shine in the spring game, but that was without Joe Licata. Thus the four-way battle for #2 will most likely not be settled until late into the summer once Licata returns from injury.
#88 UB Football Game
October 1, 2005 - UB 21, Western Michigan 31
The MAC has been able to produce a bunch of NFL stars. Those stars are usually game breaking during their college career. For 24 minutes, WMU's Greg Jennings singlehandedly beat the Bulls, catching two touchdown passes and throwing a 22 yard touchdown. WMU took a 24-0 lead into halftime. the 4th quarter.
In his first start, Willy started the game a decent 10-for-17 passing for 75 yards, but he turned it up in the second half to give UB a shot at a win. Willy went 4 for 5 for 19 yards in the first drive of the second half, but the drive ended with a missed Michael Baker field goal.
From that point, Willy finished the game 16-for-16 for 194 yards and 2 touchdown passes. UB cut the lead to 24-14, and answered a WMU score late to make the final score 31-21. The game was exciting, both for the action on the field, and for the feeling that after years of instability, UB might finally have a championship-level quarterback.
