Turns out that the Jeff Quinn to Notre Dame rumors ended up being true, albeit in a round about way.

Quinn and Brian Kelly go way back. Rising together from Division III to Central Michigan and then to Cincinnati before The Offensive coordinator came to Buffalo in late 2009. Because of this relationship rumors about Quinn joining up with Kelly have been swirling since UB let got of their head coach in October.
The NCAA Limits the number of coaches a team can have an the Irish are at capacity. Adding Quinn as an "Offensive Analyst" puts his football IQ at Brian Kelly's disposal without shaking up his coaching staff.
While it's not a coaching job the language of Quinn's contract would indicate that this job will sever his latent financial relationship with the Buffalo Athletics Department. Here is the relevant language in Quinn's contract.
It certainly seems like this job is commensurate with his education, experience, and training. So in this case UB will only be liable for the difference in salary between Quinn's current salary and his expected UB payout. It might be a little money this year or next (depending on what "analyst" get paid at Notre Dame) but chances are that it's next to nothing compared to what he could have gotten by sitting on the couch.
