Danny Gilbert Benefit

I was kind of hoping for a late UB game on Friday so that it could coincide with the Danny GIlbert Benefit going on Friday evening. It would have been a kick ass plae to watch the game for those souls who could not make it down to Columbus.

Now I suppose it will have to double as a UB victory party!

For any of you who have not been following UB hoops for 15 years here is a refresher on Gilbert.

Danny Gilbert played 118 games with the Bulls and who racked up 744 points, 384 rebounds, 179 assists and 147 steals. He was a big part of the 2005 team who  came a tip in away from getting UB to the dance.

He was also emblematic of everything Reggie Witherspoon did right to rebuild the program. In 2001 UB's freshman lass achieved the highest GPA in the country in 2001, and after graduation went on to play professional basketball in Europe.

When his stint playing professional ball was over the Michigan native adopted Buffalo as his home.

In the fall of 2013 Danny was diagnosed with testicular cancer in the fall of 2013. After surgery and numerous treatments, Danny is on the road to recovery and enjoying quality time with his family, including his 2 year-old daughter Rhiley.

Now, his challenge is managing the substantial medical bills. In an effort to help with the financial burden, a group of friends have teamed up to host a fundraising event in his honor. On, Friday, March 20, 2015 friends, family and supporters will gather at the Town Ballroom – 681 Main Street - from 6:30 p.m. – Midnight.

In addition to food and fun there will be NCAA tournament games shown and of course highlights from UB's game. Enjoy food and drinks and UB camaraderie. Most significantly, we will raise money for one of Buffalo’s most inspiring college basketball players and all-around great guy.

We would appreciate your support by donating an item for the basket raffle, silent auction or basketball pop-a-shot. You may also purchase tickets to the event for $20. Various levels of event sponsorships are available as well. All businesses will be acknowledged throughout the event.
