In Buffalo's first Cleveland MAC Tourney game, the 2004 MAC Quarterfinals, the Bulls were defeated 97-85 by the Toledo Rockets. In 2005, the Bulls returned to Cleveland to get revenge. In the 2005 MAC Quarterfinals against Toledo, UB again scored 85, but this time, they never trailed.
Tied at 31 in a high scoring first half, UB ended the half on a 14-6 run. In the first half Turner Battle added four field goals and 9 points while Calvin Cage went off for 17 points in 12 minutes, including 3-3 from beyond the arch and 4-4 at the charity stripe.
In the second half, UB stayed fresh and extended their lead with a committee effort. Mark Bortz scored 3 points in 4 minutes of play, Jason Bird scored 3 in 6 minutes, Cage added another 6 points in 12 minutes, for a game high 23 points in 24 minutes of play. Finally, Yassin Idbihi led the Bulls in the second half with 11 points in 16 minutes of play.
Up 15 early in the second, UB fought off two Toledo runs, and won the game 85-72. The Bulls moved on to face Western Michigan in the MAC Semifinals.
