The State University of New York's new football coach, Lance Leipold, had the pleasure of announcing his initial signees for the 2015 recruiting class on the first day of this season's National Signing Period. The 20-member class follows a year of change at Buffalo.
According to the recruiting service 247, the class is comprised of four defensive linemen, four offensive linemen, four defensive backs, two running backs, two tight ends, a quarterback, a pair of receivers and a kicker. The newest class comes to UB from seven different states and Quebec, including New York, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, Florida, and Pennsylvania.
Nine of UB's recruits were secured by the coaching staff of Jeff Quinn who was fired halfway into his fifth season with the Bulls. His career record was 20-36, including a bowl game in 2013, but a poor start to the season motivated UB Athletic Director Danny White to make a change. Alex Wood finished the season for Buffalo but after the season was over White announced he would hire then-five-time Division III National Champion Lance Leipold to coach the team.
While Leipold was finishing his final run - another championship season - with the University of Wisconsin Whitewater Buffalo relied on Rob Ianello to hold together their recruiting class. By most accounts Ianello was successful and Leipold hit the ground running. From the end of the dead period until signing day Leipold picked up 11 verbal recruits and a hand full of preferred walk-ons.
