Buffalo hires Tim Edwards to coach the Defensive Line at Buffalo

(Edit: We wrote two pieces, because that happens sometimes in the heat of the blogging moment. To see what Matt has to say, click here.)

Buffalo filled the slot left open by the departure of Coach John Scott Junior with the hire of Tim Edwards.

Edwards was a 1991 graduate of Delta State University where he was a two-time First Team All-Gulf South selection as a defensive lineman. He was also honored as an All-American by the Football Gazette (1989, 1990) and by the Associated Press (1990).

Edwards participated in the 1991 Blue-Gray All-Star Game as well as the Senior Bowl and as a result of his performance, he was selected in the 12th round of the 1991 NFL draft by the New England Patriots. Edwards played three seasons with the Patriots before signing a free agent contract in 1995 with the Saskatchewan Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League, with whom he also spent three years.

Edwards joined the Cajuns in 2011 after spending three seasons at Florida A&M as co-defensive coordinator, defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

Several Cajuns defensive linemen developed nicely under Edwards, including Christian Ringo, who spent his entire career with Edwards as his position coach before breaking the Cajuns’ single-season sack record this year.

Overall as a coach Edwards had a hand in developing Cletidus Hunt (Green Bay Packers), Kitwana Jones (Saskatchewan Rough Riders), Dewayne Woods (Georgia Force, AFL) and Chris Avery (Grand Rapids Storm, AFL). In addition, Edwards has coached two All-Americans in Hunt at Kentucky State, and linebacker Kitwana Jones at Hampton.

Here is an old interview with Edwards when he worked at Florida A&M
